Video: the foolproof guide to liquid eyeliner

I've covered liquid eyeliner before, but since it's the one thing women often find tricky to get the hang of, here's a short video showing you exactly how to get the perfect shape, step-by-step. Enjoy!

  1. Hi Carly, just checking in to say and hi and thanks again. Great to see your posting another video. Happy to report that my eyebrow technique keeps improving thanks to your guidance and practice. My brows are thin and spotty due to chemo, but they've always been pale. I'm looking forward to keeping up the new routine when they're grown back in.

    Cheers,
    Rachel

  2. Hey Rachel, nice to hear from you again! I finally got my act together to post another video ;)

Such great news to hear your eyebrow technique is coming along - it takes quite a bit of practice, but once you've got it you'll be doing them in 2 mins flat! Let me know if you come across any specific issues that I might be able to help out with. x

  3. Hi Carly. I came across your youtube videos last night as I was searching on anything to help me figure out how I could continue to look 'normal' once my hair is all gone--I was diagnosed with alopecia last month and I've been losing hair, brows, and lashes at neck breaking speed. Truth be told, I've been absolutely devastated these past few weeks, and your videos and your site--but mostly your attitude--is the first thing that has given me some hope. I just wanted to let you know that I am grateful that you decided to do this and hope you continue. --Jayran (FROG is my blogger :) )

  4. Hi Jayran - thanks so much for getting in touch. It's so good to hear that you've found this site helpful. I lost my hair at 19 and was struck by the lack of practical, non-emotional resources surrounding this condition - so when I'd developed my own 'repair job' techniques and finally felt comfortable sharing them, I was determined to. (You may have noticed that there's a LOT of anger and unhappiness expressed by people with this on alopecia forums and talkboards, and this wasn't something I necessarily found helpful for my own state of mind when I was at the stage you're at now - although many might disagree with me!)

The speed with which you've been experiencing all this is no small thing, and it must be taking a lot of guts to deal with it (I had the 'luxury' of almost a year to cope with mine, so MUCH respect to you). I also have a YouTube channel, and if you'd like to send me a message via that with any particular questions you might have, you'd be very welcome to!

    All the best, Carly :)

  6. hi carly, i found your videos recently and i must say its refreshing to find another fellow alopecian who has a positive attitude towards alopecia. I have been diagnosed with alopecia totalis since i was 9 months old and although my hair grew when i was about 10, i never had the pleasure of having a full set of hair but i had eyelashes and eyebrows. Now at 31 I have lost it all again but amazingly my eyelashes are still intact which is great. I use the same eyeliner as the one you showed on your video, in my opinion i find it does the job well, also another favourite would be the lord & berry eyeliner. Anyway I just wanted to say that I love your videos especially the eyebrows tutorial. It's annoying that we have to draw our eyebrows everyday but what to do hey? take care and keep them coming! :)

  8. Hello,

these are issues I hadn't previously considered, but they're much more relevant since I became a regular volunteer at the local cancer ward. Your attitude is infectious; combined with the interesting anecdotes and humor, even my typically brooding self (personally, not in front of others) managed a smile. If you wouldn't mind, this could be a great resource for the people at this ward.

Thank you, and keep up the good work

  11. Hi Carly,

I have recently lost my hair due to cancer treatment and have found your posts extremely useful.
I was wandering where you got your lovely hat from. I have been wearing scarves but would love a pretty hat i could pop on and not worry about.

    Thanks
    Victoria
