The easiest way to tie a headscarf - without knots!

This is my absolute favourite way of tying a scarf - by using a stretchy hairband instead of tying any knots. With a little practice, you'll be able to do this one with your eyes closed. It might sounds strange but trust me: it works!

  1. Hi Carly, I just finished chemo (at age 26) with about 2% of my hair intact. Of course I wish I didn't have to, but I do appreciate coming up with hair (scarf) and make-up solutions as an outlet for my creativity. Your solutions are truly artistic. Seeing you look so beautiful gives me confidence. You are very generous to take the time to share what you've learned--and so elegantly!

    Huge thanks,
    Rachel

  2. Hi Rachel - thank you so much for commenting! Really glad to hear this site's been helpful to you. It was borne out of my work with patients undergoing chemo at this fantastic cancer-support centre, so it's great to hear you've found the tips of real, practical use. If you have any specific things you'd like me to cover or do a video on, please do let me know.

All the best, and thanks for getting in touch - Carly

  3. Hi Carly, I've just discovered your blog, and I love it! Thank you very much for sharing. I just have a question, I live in Mexico so it gets very hot, in summers specially, but pretty much all year round. I wonder how hot does it get under the cap and scarves?
BTW, I love the scarf you're wearing on the eyebrows video, really pretty.

    Cheers,
    Brenda

  4. Hi Brenda - thanks for commenting! Really glad you like the blog.

Great question re: the heat - I don't know about you, but I HATE feeling hot (and, even worse, sweaty!) under my scarves, so I am careful to choose materials that won't make me overheat. Silk and cotton are great and very breathable; anything with polyester in is not. I wear a little cap under my scarf when it's cool, for extra coverage (and also when I do a video!) but if it's hot outside I would only wear the scarf. Hope that helps!

PS. The scarf I'm wearing in the eyebrows video is actually a little hat, from a great online headwear store in the UK called Suburban Turban (http://www.suburbanturban.co.uk/). They deliver all over the world I think!

  5. Hi Carly

Thanks so much for sharing. I'm going through chemo right now and the videos and blog are very helpful. Could you let us know where you got the cap that you are wearing under the scarf? it looks so nice and minimal and soft, and not too tight.

  6. Hi Carly, I got my first chemo in the middle of august and lost all my head hair after 2 weeks. I've got a wig, but want to wear it not so often. I like buffs and scarfs. Where can I get such a "little kaplan" that I saw in your YouTube videos? It seems to be thicker than hairnets. Now I'm helping me by myself with a cutted black panty leg. It works but I'm not really satisfied.
Thank you für the good tipps. You really helped me.

  8. Hi Anna, really glad you are finding the tips useful! The little cap is I wear in the videos is from an online company called Suburban Turban, and the style is called 'Kimmy'. I know that they deliver to many countries outside the UK! xo

  9. Carly,
May I ask, did you get your' scarf from this same site? I love that gloriously over-sized scarf you are demonstrating with here!

    Thank you in advance,
    Misty

  10. Hi Carly,

I've just discovered your blog. I had chemo 2 years ago and wish it had been around then. You look so beautiful and glamorous. I have shared your blog with a few girls I have met who are facing chemo now.

I also used large scarves and made little matching "scrunchies" to tie them up with, similar to yours. I am now setting up a site selling get well gifts for cancer patients and have included some scarves and matching scrunchies. I was wondering whether it might be possible to include a link to your blog to show people how to tie them? I think it would be a real help to them.

I tried to find an email address for you, but couldn't, so I hope you don't mind me asking you so publicly through your blog!

    Thanks so much,

    Anikka.

  11. Hi Carly! I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, had surgery 3 weeks ago and am waiting to start my first round of chemo. In trying to prepare myself, I stumbled upon your videos. I am awe of you. You are so real and honest and down to earth. Not to mention how incredibly beautiful you are - inside and out! Thank you for giving me hope. For letting me know that this is do-able and I can still feel beautiful. You have encouraged me more than you could ever know. Thank you for sharing your life!

    1. Hi there! I'm so happy you came across these vids and that they've been a help -- that really does make my day when someone takes the trouble to let me know that, so THANK YOU!
